Conference Scholarships
Limited scholarship awards are available to NAME members and students in need of financial assistance to attend our annual conferences. Scholarships can be used to help cover conference registration fees; full or partial scholarships may be offered depending on available funds. No travel or lodging assistance is available, but carpooling and sharing accommodations is encouraged to reduce costs. See application for details.
Criteria: Scholarship awards are based on financial need and applicability of conference content to career/future career of the applicant. Applicants must not be a voting member of the NAME Board of Directors or a Corporate Member, and must not have been awarded a scholarship for the last three NAME Annual Conferences.
Selection and Award: All applications for NAME scholarships are confidential and will be seen only by the NAME Scholarship Committee, made up of NAME board members and past scholarship recipients. Applications for scholarships submitted through June 15, 2024 will be notified of award status in time to register by the early-bird deadline on June 30. Applications received after June 15 will be awarded as funds permit.
Application: To apply, please complete the scholarship application and submit it by the scholarship deadline. Please contact Fawn Custer at scholarships@pacname.org for more information.
Scholarship recipients are encouraged to submit a report of their conference experience with photos to the scholarship chair within 60 days of the closure of the conference which they attended.
Bill “Sean” Hastie Conference Scholarship Fund
Bill Hastie, founding member and tireless supporter of the Northwest Aquatic and Marine Educators (NAME), passed away in May 2012. During his 36 years with the organization, he was continually advocating for funding support for those members who because of cost, might not otherwise have a chance to attend our annual conference. As a method of honoring Bill’s remarkable legacy, this scholarship fund has been established to advance our organization’s cause of making known the wonders of the world of water one drop at a time, for those generations following after us. The scholarship committee will choose an applicant they feel will inspire and instill the same sense of awe that Bill did with all those whose lives he touched.
Recipients of this scholarship may be a non-NAME member (in which case the scholarship will include a one-year membership); or a current NAME member interested in becoming active or more involved in the national marine educators association (NMEA).
Scholarship funds awarded for the regional NAME or national NMEA conference can be used for reimbursement of registration, travel, and/or lodging, and are based on availability of funds annually in this scholarship fund.
If you are interested in contributing to the Hastie Scholarship fund, please use the online donation button below, or mail a check to NAME c/o Sue Nightingale, Treasurer; 3000 Landerholm Cr SE, L-200; Bellevue, WA 98007. Please put Hastie Scholarship in memo line.
